Bijou Funnies #8, "Checkered Cherub": Happy Birthday, Justin Green AND S. Clay Wilson!
With today being the birthday of two legendary underground comix artists, S. Clay Wilson and Justin Green, I thought it was only fitting that I post this homage from one artist to the other (in addition to their individual "birthday posts"). From Bijou Funnies #8, a special parody issue in which numerous underground cartoonists parodied the characters and styles of their fellow artists (for example, Robert Crumb drawing a spoof of Jay Lynch's "Nard and Pat" while Jay Lynch parodied Gilbert Shelton's "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers," and so on and so forth): "Checkered Cherub," a parody of S. Clay Wilson's Checkered Demon, written and drawn by Justin Green mimicking Wilson's art style.
